SK Gaming at Gfinity 2015 Summer Masters 1.

Gfinity 2015 Summer Masters 1: How the Danes from SK Gaming fared.

This event was a chance for the brand new SK gaming to test their abilities on lan against tougher opponents, which online they did put on a good display. However, with a rooster change 3 days before the event where they changed their ingame leader from HUNDEN to BERRY. While this would most likely mean that they would not be performing to their full capability, it did also mean that the expectations, which was that would be the weakest team there, it was an opportunity to play without pressure due to high expectations.

Against the Ninjas.
The first challenge was the formidable NiP, and while it might on paper be a very one-sided match it was far from it. Before being signed by SK the core of the team SandeN, Friis, tenzki and AcilioN played on/off together in Cophenhagen Wolves where they was an excellent team on the newer maps as Cobblestone (http://www.csgonuts.com/history?t1=CPHWolves&t2=&map=cobblestone), Overpass (http://www.csgonuts.com/history?t1=CPHWolves&t2=&map=overpass) so with the map picks being Cobblestone Inferno they did have a good chance to take it to the third map.

Cobblestone should have ended with a win to SK, but ended in double overtime with a win to NiP who was dragged across the finishing line with allu acing twice in the OT (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6F2C-vcQv4 )
While it was a loss it was still a very impressive display from SandeN on B-plateau and tenzki in dropdown, however, as it might be expected with a recent igl switch their T-side was lacking.

NiP’s map pick was Inferno, and while it ended 16-12 in favor of NiP it would have been a much more one-sided performance if not BERRY did show that he is also capable of fragging, something HUNDEN has been criticized of lacking, however, as their individual play as CTs was fairly good against a team such as NiP their T-side was just as on Cobblestone lacking.

As they lost to NiP they had another chance in the lower-bracket against Titan who was 2-0ed by Dignitas.

A Titan emerges.

Titan is mostly known for the tactics of Ex6TenZ, and one of the best players in the world KennyS, who despite recently having a bit of a lackluster performance did show
SK picked Overpass one of their better maps, however, as Titan picked the map vs. Dignitas it would suggest it is a map that they have been working on.
After the 7 first rounds being really back and forth Titan, who started as CT, managed to put their foot down, which was in no little part due to KennyS showing that he still is a monster, and when he is unleashed he is hard to stop. With a scoreline of 11-4, and losing the pistol round as CT then SK were in a tough spot, and the force buy in 2nd round almost worked with only Ex6TenZ surviving on 8 HP it put SK in an almost impossible position. With a fullbuy in the 14th round they barely claw it back after almost losing a 3v5 situation, and only surviving with 1 player. While winning the round it did also put them in a much worse position since they had no money in the bank it was a full Famas buy with almost no grenades, but while almost making it work RpK put his foot down, and then map ended 16-5.
The match was although a lot closer than the score suggests and could just as easily have been 16-10.
Titan’s pick was Cache, a map which they are known for being pretty good at, and when SK was known as CPHWolves they were not known as a good or decent Cache team.
SK starts as T, wins the first round due to sublime play from SandeN, and opt to go with four AKs in the following round, but the force from Titan puts AcilioN in a 1v1 with Ex6TenZ who manages to edge a win out for Titan. SK forces up with Tec-9s and a few grenades, and due to AcilioN they manage to put tenzki in a 1v1 against Maniac, and tenzki manages to plant the bomb and take out Maniac. After the back and forth SK puts it to 4-1 before Titan’s big buy. Which Titan took, however, SK rolled up their sleeves and plowed through the 12th round where Maniac is almost able to clutch it for Titan, but SK manages to put the score to 11-4 as T during the first half. However, Titan pulled together and showed why they are known as a strong T-sided team making it match point 15-11 before SK manage to take two rounds, and then Titan closes the game with the score 16-13.
